Bloodoath of the patriots
Kelly O'Neal has returned home to her family in Wyoming after serving in the military for over a decade. She made an oath to protect and serve her country and vowed to be willing to endure countless traumas, dangers, and threats to ensure she did her part. However, the most dangerous people may be the ones closest to her.
I have known the author Ben Chewey since we were in college, and when he always shared he early works with me I always knew he would be a great writer and his first book has truly proven it! He made this such a realistic story of relatable characters and showed how many really work hard to achieve their goals. The characters were so engaging from the jerks you want to punch to the kind heart ones who want to really be better for themselves and others. I also liked how he threw in a lot of pop culture references especially about the Simpsons.
I am excited for his next book and the many others that will follow and be just as great as American Tango!
Book Reviews
This is actually an interesting book to read that catches my interest. Enjoyable of seeing the deconstructions of military/politics of two siblings catching on that are so affected. Expect to see drama and characters lashing out society.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It touches many different subjects from being in the military, to being a school teacher, and facing the sad reality of today's politics. A former vet must confront her younger brother who takes his anger towards society a little too far. She is caught in the middle because she loves her brother but at the same time must stop his plan before it is too late. This is definitely a "page turner" and I highly recommend this book.
This book captured the spirit of Holden Caulfield, updated to the 21st century. Although the protagonist is older, today's United States seems to offer many less opportunities for young people than were present 50 years ago. Mr. Chewey gives us an in-depth look at a character that is facing these tough challenges in a dying town, is repeatedly thwarted by many of the people around him, and yet perseveres. The book can be seen as a critique of society with themes of identity, angst, alienation, and the search for meaningful friendships.
